DVR (Digital Video Recorder)- are coaxial based video recorders, whereby every camera must be hard-wired to the recorder.
Newer Hybrid models allow for analog, HD over coax and IP cameras
HD analog is a compressed signal over coax up to 8MP recording
DVR & Hybrid models are available up to 32 Channel units + 8IP
These models are great for upgrading older analog DVR systems.
NVR (Network Video Recorder)- are not coax based but use Ethernet cabling This allows the NVR to record any digital video streams on the network This can greatly reduce the cabling and installation costs NVRs record digital video streams from IP cameras across a network IP cameras can stream video up to 12MP NVR models are available up to 1,024 Channel units.
Cameras
Resolution- The current industry standard for camera resolution is 1080P analog and 4MP IP digital. The resolution is denoted by the number of pixels per inch that the camera displays. The higher the number the clearer the picture, which also directly related to more flexibility with regards to the digital zoom or stretching of the picture
1080P stands for 1920 horizontal x 1080 vertical = 2,073,600 pixels
4MP stands for 2560 horizontal x 1440 vertical = 3,686,400 pixels
The resolution and lens size determine the cameras field of view.
Features such as Facial Recognition and License Plate recognition are usually jointly shared between cameras and recorders. However, resolution, field of view and night vision are solely on the camera.
Resolution in camera technology is similar to televisions. They are manufactured with the capability to display: 1080P (2MP) - 4MP (2K) - 8MP (4K) up to 12MP
Lens- Camera field of view is determined by resolution and lens size in millimeters:
2.8mm fixed lens for a 90° field of view
2.5mm fixed lens for a 180° field of view
1.8mm fixed lens for a 360° filed of view
Adjustable or Vari-Focal lenses are also an option to get the best shot which come in varying sizes.
Infrared- Night vision is the cameras ability to view in the dark Most cameras are referred to as being day/night - color in well light areas and black and white in dark Cameras have 2 types of LED lights -Infrared which are invisible to the human eye but the camera can see -New White LED light which can illuminate dark areas at night and allow the camera to see in color @ night.
